In a tragic turn of events, East Khasi Hills district police arrested Sunai Singh (42) on Friday for his alleged involvement in the murder of his co-worker, Damonica Laloo (41). The incident occurred at Trattoria Restaurant in Central Ward Barik Lachumiere, Shillong, where the victim worked as a cleaner.

Police were alerted at 10:20 AM by the restaurant owner, Batskhem Suting, who suspected that one of his staff members had been murdered. Officers from the Sadar Police Station quickly responded, along with senior officials, and the FSL Crime Scene Unit was deployed to investigate the crime scene.

The victim, identified as Damonica Laloo from Lawsohtun, was found dead on the ground floor of the restaurant. Following an investigation, which included evidence gathered by the FSL and CSU teams, and after preliminary questioning, the police quickly focused on Sunai Singh, a fellow worker at the restaurant.

Superintendent of Police Vivek Syiem confirmed that Singh admitted to the crime, explaining that the murder stemmed from an argument the previous night, which escalated after consuming alcohol. The dispute was reportedly related to an affair between the two.

Singh then allegedly attempted to hide the body near a transformer at the KJP Assembly Conference Centre. The murder weapon, a hollow iron pipe, was recovered and seized by authorities.

An inquest was conducted at the crime scene, and the victim’s body was sent to NEIGRIHMS Hospital for a post-mortem examination on Saturday. Singh has been arrested and will be presented before the court, with further investigations underway to uncover more details related to the crime.
