In a startling case of impersonation and financial fraud, Panipat police have arrested Sumit Ahuja for posing as a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) and duping a local security agency operator of Rs11.46 lakh by falsely promising a security services tender at Panjab University.

According to Superintendent of Police Bhupender Singh, the accused, a resident of the 8 Marla area in Panipat, posed as a DSP in the Investigation Bureau in Panchkula. He further introduced his wife, Tanveer Sandhu, as an officer at the Punjab and Haryana High Court, both claims later proven to be false.

The victim, Amit Sharma, owner of AV Security Service in Model Town, filed a complaint alleging that Ahuja had taken money in exchange for helping him secure a tender for university security services.

The case was registered after Sharma reported the fraud, and an investigation was launched by Inspector Phool Kumar, in-charge of CIA-2, who led the team that arrested Ahuja from his residence.

During questioning, Ahuja confessed to impersonating a senior police officer and committing the fraud. Police also discovered that he is already named in a previous fraud case registered at Ram Nagar police station in Karnal, where he allegedly cheated another individual of Rs12 lakh, this time under the pretext of arranging foreign travel.

Further investigation is underway, and police are probing whether additional victims were targeted through similar impersonation tactics.
