Mohali, Punjab — The Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) in Mohali has intensified its war on drug trafficking, registering two major heroin recoveries in separate operations this week.
Acting on a tip-off, an ANTF team led by Incharge Ram Darshan arrested two youths near the sewer bridge in Balongi while they were en route to deliver a consignment of heroin.
The arrested accused are:
Sukhdev Singh alias Sukha (26) — cab driver
Mandeep Singh (22) — chemist
Both are residents of Jalalabad.
Upon searching them, police recovered an envelope containing 355 grams of heroin. A case was registered under the NDPS Act at the ANTF police station. The duo was produced before the district court and sent to three-day police custody.
During interrogation, the two revealed that they were addicts-turned-peddlers, drawn into the trade for quick money. They purchased heroin in Jalalabad for Rs1,200 per gram and sold it in Mohali for Rs3,200 per gram. They had even built a small network of regular buyers in the area.
Police are now probing their supply chain and other possible accomplices.
In a separate operation, the ANTF arrested two more youths with 1 kg of heroin. One of the accused has been identified as:
Amit, a resident of Gate Hakima, Amritsar
The second accused is a minor
The arrests were made based on specific intelligence inputs, and a case under Sections 21C, 61, and 85 of the NDPS Act was registered on the statement of ASI Manoj Kumar.
Amit is currently on remand and is being interrogated to trace the origins of the supply and identify links in the broader trafficking network.
