In a major crackdown on interstate drug trafficking, the Borivli police have arrested 20-year-old Suhail Jamshed Ali Gaur, a carpenter from Uttarakhand, for possessing 330 grams of heroin valued at nearly Rs50 lakh in the international market.
The arrest took place on July 4 following a tip-off. A team led by DCP Anand Bhoite, Senior Inspector Mloji Shinde, and API Pramod Nimbalkar from the Anti-Terror Cell set a trap near Shiv Mandir, opposite Borivli railway station on SV Road. Gaur was caught with 100 grams of heroin on his person.
A subsequent raid at his rented residence in Oshiwara, where he stayed with three to four others, revealed an additional 230 grams of heroin.
“The total seizure amounts to 330 grams, with an estimated value of Rs49.5 lakh,” confirmed an officer from the MHB Colony police station.
Authorities have booked Gaur under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. He has been remanded to police custody for three days.
Investigations revealed that the heroin was couriered from Rajasthan to Mumbai via a private travel bus — a method increasingly used by traffickers to evade detection.
“Over the past few years, we’ve seen a pattern. Many accused come from Uttarakhand, source drugs from Rajasthan or Madhya Pradesh, and operate out of rented homes in Mumbai,” said a Borivli police official.
The police are currently pursuing three to four accomplices who are still at large and believed to be part of the same drug network.
