The Pune city police arrested a 35-year-old domestic worker on charges of theft after she allegedly stole jewellery worth Rs5.87 lakh from the residence of a retired Indian Air Force officer in the Ghorpadi area.
The accused has been identified as Sudha Rajesh Chougule, a resident of Borate Vasti near B T Kawade Road in Ghorpadi.
According to the police, the theft took place at a bungalow in Sopan Baug, where the retired Wing Commander and his wife resided. The couple discovered the valuables — comprising gold and diamond ornaments — missing from a cupboard in their house.
They immediately approached the Wanavdi police station around 1 pm on Thursday to lodge a formal complaint. A swift investigation led authorities to suspect the domestic help, who had access to the house.
After questioning and gathering evidence, police arrested Chougule and are now investigating if she was involved in any similar incidents in the area.
