Odisha Police have arrested key suspects in a high-profile gold heist that took place on January 3, 2025, with gold worth an estimated Rs20 crore stolen in a meticulously executed plan spanning multiple states.
The arrested suspects — Vikash Kumar, Sanjeev Kumar Paswan (both from Bihar), Yash Anand, and Piyush Raj (from Patna) — are alleged to be close associates of Subodh Singh, the supposed mastermind currently incarcerated at Alipore Central Jail in Kolkata.
Despite being behind bars, Subodh Singh is believed to have orchestrated the heist through an extensive criminal network. The crime involved distinct roles, including logistics, planning, execution, and disposal, complicating the investigation for law enforcement agencies.
Sambalpur Superintendent of Police, Mukesh Bhamoo, revealed that a portion of the stolen gold may have been used to procure arms. In fact, 14 pistols have already been recovered from the suspects, indicating links to a larger arms racket.
The accused have a history of involvement in similar high-value gold heists in Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh. Eight individuals are currently in custody as the investigation continues, with recovery efforts for the stolen gold still underway.
This case highlights both the audacity of organized criminal networks and the growing ability of Indian law enforcement to disrupt such operations, even across state lines.
