Hyderabad police have arrested three men for an attention diversion cheating case and recovered a stolen gold ring in Warasiguda on Saturday. The arrests were made by the crime team of Warasiguda Police Station under Crime No. 20/2026 registered under Sections 318(4) and 303(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
The incident took place on February 5 at Lalitha Nagar, opposite Jamia Osmania Railway Station, when 62-year-old retired GST superintendent Venigalla Ravi was approached by two men requesting drinking water. Gaining his trust, they convinced him to hand over a gold ring weighing approximately half a thula, claiming they would perform special prayers for his well-being.
After taking the ring, one of the accused swallowed it, and both fled to join a third accomplice waiting in an auto.
Through CCTV footage analysis and tips from local informants, police traced and arrested the three accused — Subhash Nath, Karan Nath, and Sohan Nath — all originally from Madhya Pradesh who had moved to Hyderabad for work. The stolen gold ring, weighing about 5 grams, was recovered during the operation.
Police stated that the trio specifically targeted elderly individuals by posing as religious mendicants. The operation was conducted under the supervision of senior officers of the Secunderabad Zone, led by the Warasiguda police crime team.
