A Herkimer business owner is facing multiple fraud-related charges after surrendering to authorities in March, according to the Otsego County District Attorney’s Office.
Investigators say Steven Vitalo, 32, owner and operator of Central Plumbing & Drains, turned himself in to the New York State Police on Thursday, March 5.
Vitalo was charged with insurance fraud, grand larceny, attempted grand larceny, and scheme to defraud.
Authorities said the charges stem from an investigation that began after several customers filed complaints about services connected to the plumbing business. The alleged incidents involved clients in Oneonta, Exeter, Richfield Springs, Hartwick, and Milford in New York.
After turning himself in, Vitalo was processed by state police and brought before the Otsego County CAP Court. Prosecutors said he was released because the charges are considered non-bailable under New York law.
The district attorney’s office is encouraging anyone who conducted business with Central Plumbing & Drains and believes they may have been a victim of fraud to contact the DA’s office or the New York State Police Financial Services Hotline at 888-930-6565.
