Steven T. Platt Charged with Using Fake Electrician License for Building Permits in Newtown

DANBURY — Steven T. Platt, 43, from the Sandy Hook area of Newtown, has been charged with multiple criminal offenses related to allegations of performing electrical work without a valid license. According to an affidavit filed by Detective Daniel McAnaspie, Platt admitted to obtaining eight Newtown building permits using another individual’s electrician license number and forged signature without that person’s authorization.

Platt faces serious charges in Danbury Superior Court, including first-degree identity theft connected to a contract exceeding $10,000, which carries a penalty of up to 20 years in prison. Additional charges include second-degree forgery, third-degree identity theft, and multiple misdemeanors such as doing occupational electrical work without a license, third-degree forgery, and criminal impersonation.

The cases, which are also pending in Superior Court in Torrington and Newtown police jurisdiction, highlight the serious consequences of using forged documents and working without proper licensure in Connecticut.
