ROSWELL, N.M. — A Roswell man is facing multiple charges after his partner was found brutally attacked at their home on West Alameda Street.
According to Roswell police, 42-year-old Steven Rainer was taken into custody Monday morning, August 18, after officers responded to reports of a violent domestic dispute. The victim was found with chemical burns, a gunshot wound to the leg, and evidence of being repeatedly tased.
Investigators say an argument between Rainer and his girlfriend escalated when Rainer allegedly sprayed her with a corrosive liquid, believed to be acid. While she attempted to rinse off the substance, Rainer reportedly shot her in the leg. Police also confirmed that a taser was used multiple times during the assault.
Rainer was arrested at approximately 8:50 a.m. and booked into the Chaves County Detention Center later that day. During a search of the home, officers discovered 14 firearms hidden in a hallway compartment, despite Rainer being a convicted felon.
He now faces three counts of aggravated battery against a household member and 14 counts of felon in possession of a firearm. The investigation is ongoing.
