LUSBY, Md. — On June 5, 2025, around 11:38 a.m., Calvert County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the 700 block of Spruce Drive in Lusby after receiving a 911 call from a victim who said she had just been shot while parked on Field Road.

Upon arrival, deputies found a 24-year-old woman from Prince Frederick seated in her vehicle with a gunshot wound to her lower back. Deputies provided immediate aid before emergency medical personnel transported her to a regional trauma center. Her injuries were reported as non-life-threatening.

Preliminary investigation showed the victim had arranged to meet two males near Evergreen Drive and Field Road. A white SUV with two male occupants arrived, and a Black male exited to approach the victim’s car. Shortly after, neighbors heard gunshots and saw the suspect return to the SUV, which then fled at high speed.

Detectives from the Criminal Investigations Bureau quickly located the suspect vehicle parked on Pine Trail in Lusby. A traffic stop on Catalina Road led to the arrest of the driver, identified as 18-year-old Steven Anthony Gilner, Jr. of Lusby.

Further search at a residence on H.G. Trueman Road resulted in the capture of a 16-year-old male suspect after a brief foot chase across a nearby golf course. Evidence was recovered from the home supporting the investigation.

The 16-year-old has been charged as an adult with attempted first-degree murder, attempted robbery with a firearm, first-degree assault, firearm use during a felony, reckless endangerment, two counts of firearm possession under 21, and removing a firearm serial number.

Steven Gilner Jr. faces charges including attempted first-degree murder, first-degree assault, armed robbery with a firearm, firearm use during a felony, reckless endangerment, and possession of a firearm under 21.

Sheriff Ricky Cox praised the deputies and detectives, saying, “Their swift action and dedication sent a clear message: violent crime will not be tolerated in Calvert County. We remain committed to justice and community safety.”
