24-Year-Old Arrested for Manslaughter in Fatal Melbourne Shooting
Melbourne, Fla. – Police have arrested Stephan Dieujuste, 24, in connection with the fatal shooting of Nathaniel Bernard Jennings, 19, early Sunday morning, according to a statement from the Melbourne Police Department.
Officers responded to reports of gunfire around 1:51 a.m. in the area of Vernon Place and East New Haven Avenue. At the scene, they discovered Jennings unresponsive with a gunshot wound.
Despite immediate medical assistance from police and Melbourne Fire Rescue, Jennings, a Palm Bay resident, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Dieujuste has been charged with manslaughter and is currently being held without bond. Authorities confirmed there is no further threat to the public.
An official from Eastern Florida State College confirmed that Jennings was a former student-athlete who played basketball during the 2021–22 season in a limited role. He did not return the following year.
The investigation remains ongoing.
