Montgomery Man Faces Charges for January Retail Crime

MILLBROOK, Ala. — On April 8, 2025, detectives with the Millbrook Police Department arrested Steaven B. Hunter, a 32-year-old Montgomery resident, on charges of Retail Theft 2nd Degree related to a January theft at a local Walmart.

The investigation began on January 31, when Millbrook Police responded to a delayed theft report. Walmart loss prevention personnel reported that the day before, an unidentified female suspect exited the store without paying for over $2,000 worth of merchandise. Surveillance footage showed the suspect transferring the stolen goods into a vehicle and leaving the scene.

Through their investigation, detectives with the Criminal Investigations Unit identified Hunter as the suspect and obtained a warrant for her arrest.

On April 8, Millbrook detectives were contacted by the Montgomery Police Department, who had taken Hunter into custody. She was turned over to Millbrook authorities, processed at the Millbrook Police Department, and then transported to the Elmore County Jail, where she faced additional outstanding warrants for Failure to Appear on similar charges. Bond was set at $15,000.

The arrest is credited to strong cooperation between law enforcement agencies and retail partners.

“This is another example of the effective teamwork between our department, local businesses, and our law enforcement partners in the River Region,” said a department spokesperson. “Even if someone initially avoids capture, our detectives, aided by surveillance and community resources like Crime Stoppers, can and do bring offenders to justice.”

Authorities emphasize that fleeing the scene of a crime doesn’t mean escaping accountability—Hunter’s case proves that law enforcement collaboration extends well beyond city lines.
