A 39-year-old man, Sriram Narasimha Chary, was arrested on Thursday, June 19, in connection with a house burglary involving the theft of gold and silver ornaments valued at Rs2 lakh. The arrest was made by Osmania University Police based on a complaint filed on June 11 by a resident of Habsiguda.
Chary, a resident of Chintal, originally worked as a carpenter and driver. Over time, he became addicted to alcohol and turned to burglary to fund his drinking habit. Investigations revealed that Chary is a habitual offender with a record of 24 burglary cases registered across the tri-commissionerate areas — including three in Hyderabad, five in Rachakonda, and a staggering 16 in Cyberabad.
In the recent theft, Chary allegedly stole a 1.5 tola gold chain and 500 grams of silver ornaments from a residence in Habsiguda. Based on CCTV footage and local intelligence, police were able to track and apprehend the accused.
Authorities are continuing investigations to link Chary to other unsolved thefts and recover more stolen property.
