Sriganganagar police busted an international drug trafficking network on Sunday, seizing 1 kilogram of heroin worth Rs 5 crore that was smuggled from Pakistan. Two individuals were arrested in connection with the operation.
The operation was conducted under the guidance of Sriganganagar Superintendent of Police Amrita Duhan, who described the crackdown as dismantling a well-planned, multi-layered trafficking chain.
The arrested accused are Alam Khan, a resident of Chhattargarh (Gaurisar), Bikaner, and Shabbir Ali, a resident of Bhutto ka Bas, Bikaner. Investigators said both men were key links in transporting heroin from Punjab through Rajasthan to the Haryana-Punjab drug network.
According to police, the heroin was transported from Amritsar, Punjab, in a Scorpio vehicle. Acting on a tip-off, a cordon was set up in the Rajiyasar police station area, where a team led by station in-charge Kalawati Chaudhary intercepted and searched the vehicle.
During the search, authorities recovered one kilogram of high-quality heroin. Preliminary investigations indicate the drugs were sent from Pakistan and were to be distributed further through Rajasthan. Police clarified that Khan and Ali were professional couriers, not direct buyers.
