In a significant breakthrough, Kerala police arrested two individuals associated with the Malayalam film industry on Friday, linking them to an online financial fraud scheme. The duo allegedly swindled Rs 46 lakh from a resident of Kochi.
The suspects have been identified as Sreedev (35), an associate director from Ernakulam, and Mohammed Rafi (37), a costume designer from Kannur. They were apprehended following a thorough investigation by the cyber cell, supported by a special police team.
The fraud, which took place between January and February, began when the victim was lured into clicking a suspicious WhatsApp link, promising high returns for rating buildings online. Once the victim realized the scam, they reported it to the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal, prompting authorities to initiate an investigation. The subsequent probe led to the arrests of Sreedev and Mohammed Rafi.
Authorities are continuing their investigation, with reports suggesting that the duo may be connected to additional scams.
