SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) — A Springfield man was arrested Wednesday after a months-long investigation led to the seizure of nearly 60 grams of cocaine. The Springfield Police Department, along with the FBI Western Massachusetts Gang Task Force and the Chicopee Police Narcotics Unit, executed a search warrant at a residence linked to 28-year-old Johnadier Santiago of Springfield.
The investigation centered on a home on Atherton Street, where police had been monitoring drug activity. On Wednesday, authorities observed Santiago leaving the residence and driving away. A traffic stop was made near the intersection of Carew Street and Decker Place.
During the subsequent search of Santiago’s home and vehicle, investigators found two firearms, over $1,000 in cash, and 45 grams of cocaine in powder and crack form hidden inside the garage. Additionally, over $1,700 in cash, 4.5 grams of cocaine, 17 bags of heroin/fentanyl, and 24 bags of crack-cocaine were found in his vehicle.
Santiago was arrested and charged with several serious offenses, including:
Cocaine Trafficking (36-100 Grams)
Possession of a Firearm during the Commission of a Felony (Two Counts)
Improper Storage of Firearms Near a Minor (Two Counts)
Possession with Intent to Distribute a Class A Drug
Authorities also seized $2,728 in cash. Santiago’s arrest is part of an ongoing effort to combat drug trafficking in the region. He now faces a range of criminal charges and is being held for court proceedings.
