SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WICS) — Springfield police arrested a man after a reported dispute over a stolen phone on West North Grand Avenue.

Officers responded to an anonymous disturbance call at 1300 West North Grand Ave., where they encountered a visibly upset woman who reported that her boyfriend had taken her phone. The woman declined to provide information about any physical altercation.

The boyfriend, identified as Joshua C. Thomas, 31, approached officers and began shouting at the woman, denying her request to return the phone. As officers attempted to detain Thomas to investigate possible domestic battery and theft, he resisted, prompting a physical struggle.

Officers eventually subdued and handcuffed Thomas, who was discovered to have an active Sangamon County warrant for failure to appear on a traffic offense. He was taken into custody without further incident.

No injuries were reported, and the investigation is ongoing. As with all criminal matters, Thomas is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
