In a significant internal crackdown, the Jammu and Kashmir Police arrested a Special Police Officer (SPO) posted at District Police Lines (DPL) Udhampur for drug peddling, after a heroin-like substance was recovered from his possession.

The arrest took place on Wednesday in the Phangyal area of Udhampur town during a routine police checking operation. A patrolling team from Police Station Udhampur, led by the Station House Officer (SHO), intercepted a suspicious individual who attempted to flee but was quickly apprehended.

The suspect was identified as Vishal Singh, an SPO and resident of Shakti Nagar, Udhampur. Upon frisking, police found 5.64 grams of heroin-like contraband in his possession. A case has been registered under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at Udhampur Police Station. Further investigation is underway.

In a separate major operation on June 2, Srinagar Police booked five terror associates affiliated with banned terror outfits under the Public Safety Act (PSA) for their involvement in subversive and anti-national activities.

The arrested individuals include:

Nayeem Ahmad Khan – Gamandar Panthachowk

Faizan Akhter Bhat alias Faizan – Gousia Colony

Mehraj Ud Din Bhat – Pandach, 90 FT Road

Umar Hamid Sheikh – Assar Colony, Hazratbal

Suhaib Shafi Baba alias Chamna – Diwat Walipora, Rainawari

They were detained based on formal detention orders backed by detailed dossiers prepared by Srinagar Police. These individuals have been lodged in district jails across Kathua, Udhampur, and Kot Balwal (Jammu).

Police revealed that despite having multiple criminal cases against them, the accused continued to engage in activities prejudicial to national security even after being released on bail.

The J&K Police reiterated its commitment to systematically dismantling anti-national infrastructure, especially in Srinagar city, through ongoing and targeted crackdowns.
