CAIRO, Ga. – A Cairo man has been arrested in connection with a vehicular homicide case originating in Dale County, Alabama.
Tony Adkins, 48, was taken into custody on April 11 after an investigation identified him as the suspect in a hit-and-run incident that led to the death of bicyclist Troy Williams. The Grady County Sheriff’s Office was contacted by the Alabama Bureau of Investigation (ABI), which had traced the suspect to Thomasville, Georgia. Thomasville Police apprehended Adkins without incident.
Adkins is currently being held at the Grady County Detention Center, pending his extradition to Alabama.
According to authorities, following the deadly crash, Adkins fled the scene, returning to Grady County, where he parked the tractor-trailer believed to have been involved in the collision in a rural area. Once the vehicle was located, law enforcement officials in Georgia alerted the ABI and Dale County Sheriff’s Office, prompting investigators to travel to Cairo to continue their work.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) has since seized the truck as part of the ongoing investigation.
