GREENWOOD COUNTY, S.C. (WSPA) – Erin Elizabeth Barber, a 48-year-old resident of Greenwood County, has been arrested by Special Agents from the South Carolina Department of Social Services for allegedly fraudulently obtaining more than $20,000 in Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits.
Barber faces charges of fraudulent acquisition or use of food stamps exceeding $10,000. According to the arrest warrant, during the periods from April 2019 to March 2020 and from October 2020 to September 2023, Barber inaccurately reported her and her two children’s living situations on six of eight SNAP application forms.
Investigators discovered that the two children were actually attending school and residing in Rock Hill during these benefit periods, making Barber ineligible for the $21,445 in benefits she received.
Following her arrest, Barber was booked into the Greenwood County Detention Center. The case will be prosecuted by the Eighth Judicial Circuit Solicitor’s Office.
