In a shocking case of domestic violence, Mirpur police have arrested Sonu Singh (40) for allegedly killing his wife, Vandana Singh (30), following a heated argument at their home.

According to police, the incident occurred on Monday night when Sonu Singh attacked Vandana with a road-digging tool during a quarrel. He struck her on the temple, causing her to collapse. Despite efforts by family members, including her father-in-law Arvind Singh, to save her, Sonu continued his assault.

Vandana was rushed to BRD Medical College, where doctors declared her dead on arrival. Police said the attack was so brutal that she sustained multiple head injuries.

Atul Srivastava, SHO of Chiluatal Police Station, reached the scene immediately after receiving the alert. Statements from eyewitnesses were recorded, and a manhunt was launched. Within hours, police apprehended Sonu Singh from Mirpur and Arvind Singh from the hospital premises.

A case has been registered against both accused based on a complaint filed by Vandana’s father. The victim’s body has been sent for post-mortem examination to confirm the cause of death.

Srivastava said further investigation is underway to determine whether other family members were complicit or aware of the assault. The incident has sent shockwaves through the local community, underscoring the continuing tragedy of domestic violence in households.
