The Rohtak Cyber Police have arrested Sonu, a member of a gang that allegedly defrauded a local resident, Budhram, of Rs1.18 crore under the pretext of stock market investments.

According to Inspector Kuldeep Singh, in-charge of the Cyber Police Station, Budhram filed a complaint on December 17, 2024, after being contacted by a woman claiming to be Kirti Gupta, a representative of SMC Global Security Limited. She promised high returns through stock market investments and persuaded Budhram to open a VIP institutional trading account using his personal details.

Between November 12 and December 11, 2024, Budhram transferred Rs1.18 crore to this account. He was allotted 266,500 IPOs, supposedly worth over Rs3.12 crore, and was told he could access an interest-free loan of Rs1.5 crore for seven days. However, when he tried to withdraw the loan, he discovered that the documents and IPOs were fraudulent.

Following investigations, Sonu, a resident of Sirsa, was arrested on October 24, 2025. Authorities are probing potential links to the wider gang and other similar fraudulent stock market operations.
