Sonu Arrested for Murder of Coconut Seller Manoj in Lucknow

Decade-old feud ends in fatal assault, police nab accused

by Ananya Mehta

A youth named Sonu was arrested for the murder of a coconut water seller, Manoj, in Lucknow’s Munshi Pulia area. The murder was the result of a long-standing feud that spanned over ten years.

The conflict began when Manoj had publicly assaulted Sonu’s mother. This incident left Sonu deeply scarred, and he spent the next decade searching for Manoj to exact revenge. Sonu eventually located Manoj, who was working as a tender coconut seller in Munshi Pulia.

Sonu tracked Manoj’s daily routines and enlisted his friends—Ranjeet, Adil, Salamu, and Rehmat Ali—to help carry out the attack. The group agreed to assist in exchange for a lavish booze party.

On the night of May 22, after Manoj had closed his stall, the group ambushed and fatally assaulted him with iron rods. Although the crime was captured on CCTV, police initially had no leads on the perpetrators.

Following the attack, Sonu hosted the promised party and shared photos on social media. One of the accused wore the same shirt in both the crime footage and the party pictures, providing the police with a crucial lead. This breakthrough helped authorities arrest Sonu and his accomplices, bringing the case to a close.
