Police in Buxar have solved three recent theft cases, including the high-profile burglary at the District Education Officer (DEO) office on June 22. Five individuals, including two women, have been arrested in connection with the crimes.
According to Superintendent of Police (SP) Shubham Arya, the thieves broke into the DEO office by cutting through the gate. A special team led by Sadar DSP Dhiraj Kumar used CCTV footage and forensic analysis to track down the culprits.
The prime accused, Sonal Kumar Singh, son of Shailesh Kumar Singh from Mahdah village under Mufassil police station, was identified and arrested. During interrogation, he confessed to the DEO theft and two other burglaries: one at a jewellery shop and another at an electronics store.
He named Monu alias Krishna Kumar, son of Nandji Gupta of Budhan Purva, as his accomplice. Stolen gold was reportedly sold to Rinku Devi, wife of Nandji Sah. Stolen electronics were sold to Sona Devi, wife of Buchun Rajbhar, and Naseem Khan of Shanti Nagar.
All five—Sonal Kumar Singh, Monu (Krishna Kumar), Rinku Devi, Sona Devi, and Naseem Khan—have been arrested and remanded to judicial custody. The police recovered several stolen items including:
12 pairs of bridal anklets
12 silver coins
4 pairs of silver toe rings
2 gold nose pins
2 LED televisions
SP Arya confirmed that Sonal has a prior criminal history, while Monu’s background is under investigation. The probe continues.
