A 55-year-old man, Gyan Chand, was allegedly murdered by his son, Jagdeep Thakur, in Deodhar village near Kullu today. The incident occurred during an argument between the two at around 7:30 AM, where Jagdeep struck his father on the head with a wooden stick, leading to fatal injuries. Gyan Chand bled heavily and died at the scene. After the attack, Jagdeep fled the location.
Kullu’s SP, Karthikeyan Gokulachandran, confirmed that four teams were set up to locate the accused. He was arrested in the afternoon. A case has been registered under Section 103(1) of the Bharatiya Nayaya Sanhita, and investigations are ongoing to determine the motives behind the tragic event. Medical examinations of the accused and the post-mortem report of the victim are expected to provide more information.
Authorities have cordoned off the area, and forensic teams have gathered evidence from the crime scene. Police are investigating the relationship between the father and son, looking into any previous disputes or signs of violence. They are also exploring the possibility of contributing factors like substance abuse, financial struggles, or mental health issues that might have played a role in the crime.
This murder marks the third in the district this year. Earlier incidents included the strangulation of Gangi Devi (60) in Rasol village on January 7, and the alleged murder of a 23-year-old girl in a Kasol hotel on January 11. Both cases saw arrests made, with one suspect still at large in the latter case.
In another disturbing discovery, the body of an unidentified woman was found on February 2, along a pedestrian path near Samahan in the Manali subdivision. The body showed signs of being mauled by animals, and police have yet to release further details or confirm the cause of death.
