Mumbai Police have busted a major mephedrone (MD) manufacturing unit on the city outskirts, seizing drugs, raw materials, and equipment valued at Rs 13.4 crore. Five individuals were arrested in connection with the operation.
The investigation began on October 5 when Tilak Nagar Police recovered 57 grams of MD from a suspect. During interrogation, the suspect revealed details of a wider supply chain, leading authorities to track down four more individuals allegedly involved in the production and sale of the drug in Mumbai and Mira Road.
Raids conducted at an MD factory in Rashid Compound, Pelhar, Vasai led to the seizure of 6.675 kg of MD along with raw materials and manufacturing equipment.
The arrested include:
Sohel Abdul Raouf Khan (36) – Narayan Nagar, Ghatkopar (West), involved in MD sales
Mehtab Sherali Khan (29) – Shivajinagar, Govandi, involved in manufacturing
Iqbal Bilal Sheikh (33) – Rafik Nagar, Govandi, involved in manufacturing
Mohsin Qayoom Sayyed (40) – Gautam Nagar, Govandi, involved in manufacturing
Ayub Ali Abubakar Siddiqui (23) – Panvel, involved in manufacturing
The raids were conducted under the supervision of Mumbai Police Commissioner and senior officers, including the DIG of Devnar Division and ADGP of multiple divisions. Police continue the investigation, and further arrests are possible as the network is mapped.
