Lindsay Nicole Clemons, a former patrol officer from Smyrna, has been charged with nearly 20 counts of forging doctor’s notes to excuse student absences.
The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, alongside the Smyrna Police Department, launched an investigation in December 2024 after the Rutherford County School System raised concerns over potential forgery. On Tuesday, Clemons was dismissed from her position with the Smyrna Police Department, indicted on six counts of identity theft, and 19 counts of forgery. She was arrested the following day and is currently being held in jail on a $40,000 bond.
Smyrna Police Chief Jason Irvin emphasized the department’s commitment to maintaining a high standard of integrity. “We will not tolerate unethical behavior on any level,” he said, reinforcing the seriousness of the charges against Clemons.
