GONVICK, Minn. — A 41-year-old man, Skyler Allen Robinson, has been charged with five crimes, including felony assault with a dangerous weapon, following a domestic violence incident Friday morning.
Robinson faces charges of:
Assault in the second degree with a dangerous weapon
Domestic assault by strangulation
Misdemeanor domestic assault
Threats of violence
Possessing ammunition while using a controlled substance
According to the criminal complaint, a Polk County Sheriff’s Deputy responded around 5:30 a.m. on December 5 to a rural residence in Gonvick for a reported domestic assault. The victim had escaped the home and called for help.
At the scene, deputies found the victim with blood on her head, face, hands, and clothes. She told officers Robinson had thrown a table saw at her head, struck her and her service dog with an axe handle, strangled her multiple times, and threatened to kill both her and the dog. Robinson also reportedly forced the victim outside without shoes or a coat for an hour.
Deputies noted blood throughout the residence, including on the ground, deck, and walls. A table saw and axe handle were recovered from the living room floor.
During a search, authorities found a .22 caliber bolt action rifle, two smaller firearms, and ammunition including 12-gauge shotgun shells, .223 rifle rounds, and .357 bullets. Robinson voluntarily provided a urine sample that tested positive for methamphetamine.
Robinson denied assaulting the victim during questioning at the Northwest Regional Corrections Center, claiming she had injured herself.
He is currently on supervised probation in Crow Wing County for a 2023 second-degree assault conviction. Prosecutors plan to seek an enhanced sentence, citing Robinson as “particularly unamenable to probation.”
