The Special Crime Unit of the Commissionerate Police conducted a successful anti-narcotics raid in the Khandagiri area of Bhubaneswar, seizing 515 grams of brown sugar valued at approximately Rs50 lakh, according to Commissioner S. Dev Datta Singh.

The raid, based on a confidential tip-off, led to the arrest of two brothers, identified as Sk Jamir Mohammad alias Jammu and Sk Sahid Mohammad alias Muna, both residents of Jaleswar in Balasore district.

The duo was apprehended near Naka Gate Chowk on Tuesday evening while attempting to deliver the narcotics consignment to local peddlers in the city. In addition to the brown sugar, the police recovered a red Honda Activa (OD 01 AW 4291), two mobile phones, and Rs3,150 in cash.

Both accused are currently in police custody and are being interrogated to trace the broader network involved in the drug supply chain.

Commissioner Singh stated, “This operation is a testament to our relentless commitment to eradicating drug networks. Our team is dedicated to dismantling such criminal enterprises and urges public cooperation.”

The police have also stepped up enforcement activities across the city, including raids in Infocity Police Station limits, where ganja, ganja-laced cigarettes, and other incriminating materials were seized from small shops.

This bust follows a major crackdown last month, where five individuals and a juvenile were arrested with brown sugar worth Rs72 lakh in Bhubaneswar.
