Six women belonging to an interstate theft gang were arrested following the theft of a gold mangalsutra at Indore Railway Station. Stolen valuables worth lakhs of rupees were recovered from the accused.
The incident occurred on May 21 when the victim was boarding coach B/3 of train number 20414 Mahakal Express from platforms 5/6 at Indore station, accompanied by her husband. Taking advantage of the crowded platform, the gang members pushed the woman and unzipped her handbag, stealing a 16-gram gold mangalsutra valued at approximately Rs 1,45,000.
After the complaint was lodged, an FIR under section 305(C) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) was registered with the Government Railway Police (GRP), Indore. SP Santosh Kori stated that, acting on intelligence inputs, the team swiftly tracked and detained six women from a notorious gang operating between Delhi and Nagpur.
The arrested were identified as Archana (40), Soni (25), Kajal (40), Malti (40), Jagmohani (40) — all residents of temporary settlements near Nizamuddin Dargah, Delhi — and Reshma alias Renuka (40) from Nagpur, currently living in Delhi’s Sadar Bazaar.
During interrogation, Malti admitted to unzipping the victim’s bag and stealing the mangalsutra, which she then handed to Soni. Police recovered the stolen gold ornament from Soni.
Other recovered items included a mobile phone worth Rs 12,000 and Rs 6,000 in cash linked to earlier theft cases. Further investigation revealed the gang’s involvement in multiple thefts, mainly targeting passengers at crowded railway stations.
