Six women from Maryland were arrested in Norwood, Massachusetts, on multiple charges including breaking and entering, conspiracy, and possession of burglary tools. Authorities allege the group is part of a multi-state organized criminal network.
The suspects, ranging in age from 21 to 42, were caught after homeowners reported finding several women inside their home near Neponset Street. Upon confrontation, the women fled in a vehicle, according to the Norwood Police Department.
Later that day, police spotted a vehicle matching the suspects’ description. After a brief chase, the six women exited the vehicle and fled on foot into a nearby wooded area. Officers apprehended the suspects after a coordinated search, including pursuit across a river.
Norwood Police Chief Padden credited the arrest to the collaborative efforts of officers, specialized units, and mutual aid partners. The U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Homeland Security Investigations assisted in confirming the identities of the women: Mirabela Caldarau, 42; Jajela Chiciu, 41; Flavia Caldararu, 22; Emilia Sardaru, 36; Mihaela Ion, 33; and Elizabeth Sardaru, 21.
Investigators revealed the women are related and that several had active warrants in other states for similar crimes. After their arraignment, three of the women were released on bail but immediately taken into custody by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Additionally, two men who posted bail for the suspects were also taken into ICE custody.
Norwood Police confirmed the group is allegedly involved in similar criminal activities across multiple states. The investigation is ongoing, with authorities cooperating across jurisdictions.
