by Sophia Bennett

The Winder Police Department arrested six individuals in connection with a shooting at Rose Hill Cemetery on Friday afternoon that left a 19-year-old woman with gunshot wounds.

The incident, which occurred around 2 p.m., stemmed from a drug deal that went awry. Police said the suspects, including 17-year-old Keishod Hunt and four juveniles (two aged 14 and two aged 15), met with 19-year-old Owen Sudduth from Watkinsville at the cemetery.

During the drug transaction, Sudduth was allegedly confronted by the suspects, who attempted to rob him at gunpoint. Sudduth fled the scene in his vehicle, but one of the suspects fired a gun, striking the woman who was in the vehicle with him.

The victim was immediately transported for medical treatment after police received a 9-1-1 call reporting the incident. Sudduth then drove to a nearby parking lot and called authorities.

Officers from Winder Police and Barrow County Sheriff’s deputies worked quickly, locating and apprehending Hunt and the four juveniles. The group was charged with aggravated assault and criminal attempt to commit armed robbery. Sudduth, the victim’s driver, was charged with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute.

Sudduth was released from custody on a $12,000 bond, while Hunt remains in detention without bond. The four juveniles were transported to a regional youth detention center.

The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are continuing to gather information about the incident.
