Six Arrested in Kidnap-Murder of Trader Niraj Sah

Close Aide Shubham Kumar Plotted the Abduction

Police arrested six people, including a woman, on Tuesday in connection with the kidnapping and murder of grain trader Niraj Sah in Chakiya, East Champaran.

Niraj Sah (35), who ran a wholesale grain shop in the Chakiya market, was kidnapped on Sunday. His body was recovered the next evening from bushes in the Paru police station area of Muzaffarpur.

According to police, Shubham Kumar, a close associate of Niraj, masterminded the abduction. On Sunday, Shubham went to Niraj’s home in Parsauni village under Kalyanpur police station and convinced him to accompany him to Dewariya, claiming he could secure foodgrains at a cheaper rate. Later that evening, Niraj’s family received a ransom call demanding Rs2 lakh.

Following the ransom demand, Niraj’s father Asharfi Sah lodged an FIR at Chakiya police station and informed police that he had seen his son leave with Shubham on a motorcycle. Acting on mobile location tracking, police arrested Shubham near Chakiya.

During interrogation, Shubham confessed that Niraj had been killed on Monday—just an hour after the FIR was filed. Police then recovered Niraj’s body in Paru.

Subsequent raids led to the arrest of Shubham’s collaborators: Mukesh Sah, Rameshwar Sah, Shobha Devi, and two other associates. Police said further investigation is underway to determine additional links in the conspiracy.
