Hailakandi police have arrested six individuals in connection with a fake birth certificate scam that reportedly generated over 106 bogus certificates. The arrested suspects are Hossain Ahmed Barubhuiyan, Sirajul Islam Laskar, Om Prakash Singh, Dinesh Kurmi, Brahmananda Kurmi, and Suraj Rabidas, all residents of Hailakandi district.

Police launched a raid on Thursday night, detaining the accused, who allegedly created fraudulent birth certificates from SK Roy Civil Hospital and Lala Primary Health Centre. These certificates were then illegally uploaded to a government portal, allowing dubious individuals to claim proof of Indian citizenship.

Investigations suggest that the scam was part of a larger conspiracy involving suspected foreign nationals seeking Indian citizenship through these fake documents. Police also suspect the involvement of government employees or intermediaries, while unscrupulous health workers and brokers facilitated the creation and uploading of the certificates.

Authorities are interrogating the arrested individuals to uncover additional details about the conspiracy and identify all parties involved.
