On February 15, the crime branch busted a gang that allegedly targeted women during the annual Shivji Ki Savari procession and arrested six persons, including a woman, from Wariasia Ring Road following a tip-off.
The accused, residents of Banaskantha and Kheda districts, reportedly came to the city with the intention of committing thefts during the religious procession, which attracts a large crowd each year. Police said the gang mingled with the crowd and used a cutter to steal a gold chain from a woman.
The stolen gold chain, valued at Rs 1.40 lakh, was recovered. Additionally, five mobile phones were seized from the accused, identified as Sagar Parmar, Badal Koli, Suraj Dabhi, Sukhdev Koli, Nidiya Parmar, and Babita Koli.
Police reports noted prior records: Nidiya Parmar had two previous theft arrests in Jamnagar and Surat; Sagar Parmar had past gambling and theft cases in Palanpur; Babita Koli had theft cases in Morbi; and Badal Koli and Sukhdev Koli had theft offenses registered in Palanpur.
Authorities continue to monitor for any additional accomplices linked to the gang’s activities during the procession.
