The Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the multi-crore education scam in Maharashtra has arrested two senior officials—Chintaman Wanjari, chairman of the Nagpur Divisional Board, and Vaishali Jamdar, divisional secretary of the Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar Division.
The arrests come after the interrogation of former deputy director Anil Pardhi, whose revelations exposed a nexus between senior officials and scamsters involved in the racket.
Wanjari was taken into custody on Thursday and remanded by the magistrate court until May 27. Jamdar was arrested on Friday, intensifying the ongoing crackdown.
SIT officials revealed Wanjari allegedly created around 281 Shalarth IDs, many suspected to be fake, enabling illegal salary disbursements and causing major financial losses to the government. Jamdar is accused of facilitating about 211 fraudulent IDs approved for salary payments.
The SIT, led by inspector Manish Thakare and supervised by ACP Sunita Meshram, is conducting the investigation under CP Ravinder Singal’s guidance. Meshram stated, “Scamsters have misappropriated a substantial amount of public funds,” and hinted at further arrests.
These arrests mark a critical step in dismantling the corrupt network behind the education scam that has shaken Maharashtra’s education system. Authorities anticipate more names may emerge as the probe continues.
