Two sisters from Kissimmee are facing felony charges after deputies say they stole nearly $2,500 worth of merchandise from the Target store at Posner Park in Polk County.
The incident took place around 8:45 p.m. on Tuesday, November 4, when a Polk County Sheriff’s Office deputy responded to the retail location after store security reported a large theft.
Target loss prevention officers had detained 32-year-old Hala Kamel and 19-year-old Afnane Kamel, both from Kissimmee, after observing them leave the store with numerous items they had not purchased.
According to Target security, the sisters attempted to take $2,487.70 in unpaid merchandise, including bedding, home décor, clothing, and makeup.
Sheriff Grady Judd credited store employees for acting quickly, stating, “When you walk into a store and try to leave with nearly $2,500 worth of unpaid merchandise, that’s not a mistake—that’s a crime. Thanks to a vigilant associate who saw something and said something, our deputies were able to respond quickly.”
Following the on-scene investigation, both women were arrested and transported to the Sheriff’s Processing Center. Each is charged with Grand Theft and Conspiracy to Commit Grand Theft.
