In a significant crackdown on drug smuggling, Sirsa police arrested two youths and seized 4.256 kg of heroin from their possession. The international market value of the recovered heroin is estimated to be around Rs25 crore.

The arrested individuals were identified as Abhishek, a resident of Sirsa, and Pradeep, from Naruana village, located in Bathinda district of Punjab. Following the arrest, an FIR was registered at the Sirsa Civil Lines police station under the NDPS Act, and further investigations are underway.

According to Sirsa SP Vikrant Bhushan, a team from the CIA Ellenabad police, led by Sub-Inspector Jagdish Chandera, was conducting a routine patrol in the Chattargarh Patti area when they noticed a suspicious car approaching. Upon seeing the police, the suspects attempted to flee, but the police acted swiftly, intercepting the vehicle. A search, conducted in the presence of a gazetted officer, led to the discovery of the 4.256 kg of heroin hidden in the vehicle.

During interrogation, the suspects confessed to procuring the heroin from Punjab with the intention of distributing it in Sirsa and nearby areas.

SP Bhushan also highlighted that, with the collective efforts of the Sirsa police and local citizens, 154 villages in the district and 11 wards in Sirsa and Ellenabad have been declared drug-free. The anti-drug drive will continue with full force, he added, stressing the importance of maintaining vigilance to combat the drug menace in the region.
