Chandigarh Police arrested a 21-year-old woman, Simran from Manimajra, in connection with the gruesome Pinjore murder case. She was presented in court today and remanded to three days of police custody for interrogation.
According to Assistant Commissioner of Police (Crime) Arvind Kamboj, Simran allegedly contacted the victim, Rajiv Gupta, via Instagram and invited him to meet her. Shortly after, Rajiv was allegedly killed by her family members.
The case first emerged when police discovered a decomposed body on August 22 buried in a ditch near Sukhomajri village along the Pinjore-Nalagarh bypass. Forensic analysis later confirmed the body belonged to Rajiv Gupta, who had been missing since August 9. His last known phone location was also traced to Pinjore.
Rajiv’s father revealed to police that his son was in a relationship with a woman despite being married. Her family had previously issued threats, prompting a report to Chandigarh Police.
Earlier in the investigation, three other individuals — Kamaldeep alias Kundan (the woman’s brother, resident of Pipliwala), Satyanarayan alias Satta, and Vinod — were arrested on August 27 and remanded before being sent to judicial custody.
The investigation, led by Sub-Inspector Rajesh, is ongoing. Authorities are focusing on uncovering the sequence of events and the extent of Simran’s involvement in the murder plot.
