In a significant breakthrough, Gurugram Police have successfully apprehended Siddh Lal, a murder accused who had been evading arrest for over 15 years. The arrest took place on May 12 in village Dudhwa, Charkhi Dadri district, following a tip-off.

Siddh Lal, a resident of Chhatarpur, Madhya Pradesh, had been on the run since the 2009 murder of Bhagirath, a resident of Damoh, Madhya Pradesh. Lal was carrying a cash reward of rS5,000 for his capture.

The crime occurred on the night of March 31, 2009, when Siddh Lal and two accomplices brutally assaulted Bhagirath over a money dispute and, in a shocking act, set him on fire. Bhagirath later succumbed to his injuries at RN Hospital in Manesar on May 11, 2009. A case was registered under the relevant sections at Manesar Police Station.

After the murder, Siddh Lal went into hiding, frequently shifting between Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and other states, living under different aliases and working as a mason to avoid detection.

Gurugram Police, with the help of their Proclaimed Offender (PO) staff, tracked him down over the course of months. Sub-Inspector Deepak Kumar and his dedicated team were instrumental in his capture.

“He kept changing his location and lived under the radar. His arrest is a result of our team’s sustained efforts,” said a Gurugram Police spokesperson. Siddh Lal will now be produced in court for further legal proceedings.
