Shubham Singh Held After 2-Year Cyber Crime Manhunt

Accused ran fake profiles for sextortion and cyber harassment

Mumbai Police have apprehended Shubham Kumar Manoj Prasad Singh (25), wanted for online sexual harassment and sextortion, after a two-year manhunt. Singh was found in Sandur, Karnataka, where he was working as a security guard.

The investigation began with a complaint by a female student in Mumbai. Singh allegedly created multiple fake social media profiles using women’s identities to carry out sextortion scams—pressuring victims to send explicit content and then blackmailing them. He managed more than 90 email IDs to facilitate his crimes.

Police uncovered that Singh targeted women via video calls, recorded their private footage, and circulated edited videos to harass and extort them. Authorities also seized a disturbing collection of images of over 13,500 women, allegedly obtained without consent.

Technical leads from Google helped Mumbai Police trace Singh’s location. Despite holding a diploma from Delhi, he stayed hidden for years, continuing his criminal activities.

Singh is now in custody and faces charges under cyber law, including for online sexual harassment and sextortion. Police urge victims of similar crimes to come forward and report.
