The city crime branch arrested a youth named Shubham Lowanshi for allegedly defrauding a man of Rs13,000 under the pretext of offering him a job in a bank.
The complaint, filed by Ramzan Khan, a resident of Banganga, stated that he had seen a job advertisement on April 1 on a social media profile belonging to Lowanshi. Upon contacting him, Lowanshi claimed he could arrange a bank job for Khan.
They met the next day at Rajwada, where Lowanshi took Khan’s mobile number and asked him to transfer Rs1 as a “registration” fee. When Khan sent the money, Lowanshi used the opportunity to access his payment credentials.
Using the pretext of further registration, Lowanshi then tricked Khan into making two more transfers totaling Rs13,000. When Khan demanded an explanation, Lowanshi threatened him and fled.
Additional DCP (Crime) Rajesh Dandotiya confirmed that the accused was arrested within 24 hours. The police investigation revealed that Lowanshi had used similar tactics to dupe others as well. The crime branch is now verifying additional complaints linked to him.
