by Sophia Bennett

Shreveport — Officers with the Shreveport Police Department responded to a reported theft in progress at Walmart on East Bert Kouns Industrial Loop.

While officers were en route, they were informed that the suspect had already left the store and was walking toward Willis-Knighton Pierremont Health Center. Police contacted Walmart’s loss prevention team and obtained a photo of the suspect.

Officers quickly located the individual nearby and conducted a search, during which they found stolen merchandise inside the suspect’s backpack.

Police identified the suspect as William Black. When officers checked his information in the system, they discovered he also had an outstanding felony theft warrant from Bossier Parish.

Black was taken into custody and now faces an additional charge of felony theft as a habitual offender due to prior theft convictions.
