In one of the city’s largest recent narcotic crackdowns, the Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) of Uttar Pradesh, along with Thakurganj police, arrested four individuals — including three members of a single family — for running a massive drug trafficking operation.
The accused were identified as Shravan Kumar Nishad (65), his son Ayush Nishad (20), daughter-in-law Neha Nishad (24), and a relative, Sulfiyan (20) of Wazirbagh. The family was reportedly sourcing drugs from Barabanki and distributing them across various regions from their house in the Rautghat locality.
The police seized:
1.015 kg of morphine
252 grams of charas
5.5 kg of ganja
6 grams of MDMA
Rs79,530 in cash
A Swift Dzire car
Four mobile phones
A 100 Euro note
“Entire family members were deeply involved in this operation, which raises concerns about new patterns in drug trafficking,” said Thakurganj SHO Shrikant Rai.
A fifth family member involved in the racket is currently absconding.
A case has been registered under Sections 8, 20, 21, and 29 of the NDPS Act at Thakurganj police station. Investigations are underway to trace the interstate supply chain and others involved in the drug network.
