In a strong move against drug trafficking, police have arrested four drug peddlers across Shopian, Kupwara, and Handwara, recovering significant quantities of narcotics and liquor.
In Shopian, the Police Station Keller team intercepted Nazeer Ahmad Lone of Kathuhallan at a checkpoint on Kathuhallan axis. Attempting to flee, Nazeer was caught and found carrying 15.343 kilograms of semi-dry poppy straw. A case (FIR No. 27/2025) has been registered, and investigations are underway.
In Kupwara, police from Kralpora stopped a load carrier at Khazanmatti checkpoint. The two passengers, Firdous Ahmed Najar and Gh Nabi Ganie of Kralpora, were found in possession of charas-like narcotics. Both were arrested, and FIR No. 47/2025 was filed.
In Handwara, officers at the Ananwan-Kralgund crossing arrested Basharat Rasool Rather, who was carrying 270 grams of charas wrapped in maize cover and 10 bottles of whiskey. FIR No. 32/2025 has been registered.
The police urge citizens to report any drug-related activities and cooperate in efforts to eliminate drug trafficking from society. Authorities assure strict action against offenders under the law.
