AUSTIN, Texas — A former assistant principal at IDEA Public Schools has been arrested following allegations of an inappropriate relationship with a former student, according to an arrest affidavit released by police.
The suspect, 29-year-old Shonterrich Jeremaine Johnson, was formerly employed as the assistant principal of instruction at the Austin-based charter school.
The investigation began on September 10, when two female students reported the alleged misconduct to school administrators. The students presented screenshots of sexually explicit text messages purportedly exchanged between Johnson and a former student.
IDEA Public Schools responded with a public statement confirming Johnson’s arrest and clarifying that the incident occurred off campus and involved a former staff member.
“IDEA is committed to prioritizing the safety and well-being of staff and students,” the statement read. The school also confirmed that Johnson is no longer employed and that they are fully cooperating with law enforcement.
The investigation remains ongoing, and further details have not yet been released by authorities.
