Jammu & Kashmir: In a decisive move to curb the growing drug menace, Shoib Akhter, a notorious drug peddler from Draj village, has been detained under the PIT-NDPS Act and lodged in Jammu Jail, authorities confirmed.
Akhter has been a repeat offender, with multiple past cases related to drug trafficking. His detention under the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (PIT-NDPS) Act is part of an intensified effort to break the supply chain and prevent further criminal activity.
The action reflects the administration’s zero-tolerance policy toward narcotics in Jammu and Kashmir, where drug abuse has become a growing concern.
🔍 Wider Crackdown Across Districts
Simultaneously, anti-narcotics operations were launched across Rajouri, Samba, and Udhampur districts, resulting in the arrest of four individuals. Police recovered heroin and other narcotics in varying quantities during these operations.
Investigations are ongoing to trace their links and dismantle wider networks involved in narcotics distribution across the region.
🚨 Absconder in Bovine Smuggling Case Also Nabbed
In a related development, an absconding accused in a 2022 bovine smuggling case was finally arrested in Kathua. The suspect had been evading authorities for three years.
These arrests highlight the multi-pronged strategy by law enforcement agencies in Jammu and Kashmir to clamp down on both drug trafficking and organized criminal activities.
