In a targeted operation to prevent drug peddling near educational institutions, North Goa Police arrested two individuals for allegedly attempting to supply ganja to students.
On June 16, Pernem Police arrested Shivanand Gawade (28), a resident of Parcem, after seizing 732 grams of suspected ganja hidden in the dickey of his scooter near the Tuem Garbage Treatment Plant. The contraband, valued at Rs70,000, was found during a routine check as part of the anti-narcotics drive.
In a separate operation on June 18, Bicholim Police apprehended Harshadeep Ghanekar (19) from Poira, Mayem. He was caught in possession of 29 grams of suspected ganja, worth Rs2,900, near the Shirgao railway track during early morning hours.
Both individuals have been booked under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, and investigations are ongoing to determine if they are part of a larger drug supply network targeting students.
The police emphasized that the crackdown will continue around schools and colleges, warning peddlers of strict legal action.
