Shimla Police Arrest Habitual Drug Peddlers Inder Dev & Others

Three arrested to dismantle local drug networks

Shimla police on Monday apprehended three habitual drug peddlers from different areas under the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1988. The arrested individuals are Inder Dev, alias Danu (41) from Mandholghat, Deepak Thakur (35) of Nav Bahar, and Sanjeev Kumar, alias Ghoda (34), from Dhar village in Theog.

SSP Gaurav Singh stated that the arrests were part of preventive measures aimed at breaking the local drug supply network. He noted that all three had a history of repeated drug-related offenses.

Inder Dev has a long record of arrests, including four for possession of “chitta” and opium. His prior arrests include 40.26 grams of heroin and 16.35 grams of opium in Shimla on October 12, 2022; 18.55 grams of heroin in Shimla on June 28, 2023; 60 grams of heroin in Zirakpur, Punjab, on October 25, 2024; and 2.47 grams of heroin in Solan district on December 11, 2025. He faces 52 criminal cases across Himachal Pradesh and other states.

Deepak Thakur also has multiple NDPS cases. In one instance, he was caught with 64.34 grams of heroin at West Shimla police station on July 21, 2021, and later with 5.48 grams of heroin in Sanjauli on August 19, 2025.

Sanjeev Kumar, similarly, has a repeated history of drug offenses. His prior arrests include 1.03 grams of “chitta” on September 4, 2020; 1.64 grams on October 7, 2020; 12.55 grams on March 19, 2021; and 2.29 grams on November 30, 2025, all in the Dhalli area.

The police reaffirmed their commitment to dismantling drug networks in Shimla and preventing the circulation of narcotics in the district.
